思い出したように (omoidashita youni) Meaning “As if you’ve just remembered”

April 13, 2020

Definition

思い出したように (おもいだした ように, Omoidashita youni)  is an idiomatic Japanese expression that literarily means “as if one has just recalled/remembered”. It is used when something happens or someone does something out of the blue after a long suspension period. It often contains an ironic connotation that you have been suspending what you were supposed/determined to do more frequently. For instance, a lot of people hit the gym after taking a long “break” as if they’ve just remembered that they are supposed to achieve a perfect body. Well, admittedly, this website has been also updated just 思い出したように.
