About This Website

Welcome to Takashi’s Japanese Dictionary (Takashionary)! This website introduces unique Japanese words and phrases in English, most of which are not covered in standard textbooks or language lessons (e.g. slang words and idioms). If you want to express yourself creatively and/or humorously in Japanese and astonish your Japanese friends, this is the website for you. If you like this page, you may follow my social media accounts (X, Instagram, Facebook: @takashionary) and keep yourself posted!

About Me

Hello, I’m Takashi. I’m a native Japanese speaker (born and raised in Japan) and a PhD  in Engineering (specifically, Natural Language Processing: NLP) from The University of Melbourne (my researcher profile/CV is here). While working full-time as an ML/NLP researcher in Japan, I also work part-time as a lexicographer of a Japanese dictionary (国語辞典), mainly writing definitions of newly coined Japanese words. If you have any suggestions/work offers (e.g. Japanese language lessons or any sorts of collaboration), please let me know via my social media accounts (preferred) or a contact page!
