a person who has a twisted mind and likes to do the opposite of what he/she is told or expected to do, or of what a majority of people do; a contrarian

Additional Info

Also 天邪鬼 in kanji. It originates from an imaginary character in Japanese folk tales.

Example

あまのじゃくだから、「やるな」と言われるとやりたくなる
I am fond of doing the opposite thing and so when someone tells me “Don’t do it”, I rather feel like doing it.

あまのじゃくだから、試験期間が終わった後に勉強する気になるし、真冬にかき氷を食べたくなる。
Because I love doing the opposite, I feel like studying after an exam period is over and feel like eating shaved ice in the dead of winter.
