Additional Info

It is used when you strongly recommend something to your friends and persuade them to have a shot at it anyway, even though they’re not very keen to try it. It is also used when you push yourself to try something new following someone’s recommendation while not fully convinced of its benefits.

Example

この本(ほん)、マジで面白(おもしろ)いから!騙されたと思って読(よ)んでみて?
This book is really interesting! Why don’t you read this book, pretending as if you are deceived by me? (≒ Just do it, trust me!)

騙されたと思って、ジムで筋(きん)トレ始(はじ)めてみたらハマった
Pretending as if I had got duped, I started working out in a gym and I’ve got into it.
